Overview

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, Test and Validation, this role is responsible for the development of NVH testing for the Commercial vehicle engineering dept.The role includes the development of NVH and structural fatigue test rigs within the test dept and the development of test methodologies to facilitate the implementation of test procedures based on road simulation.

Principal Accountabilities
• Be responsible for the development of Noise matrix test methodologies for commercial vehicle foundation brakes.
• Be responsible for the development of road load data gathering exercises
• Develop multi-axis vibration test programs from first concept (Road Load data gathering through to vibration rig road simulation.
• Develops and implements new lab test technologies and methods.
• Interfaces with Design and Product engineering to establish analytical model correlation with component and system level tests.

• Develop advanced NVH testing techniques which also include the use of real-time simulation technology. (Application to multi-channels test rigs)

• Provides technical direction in the areas of NVH and structural testing.




Required job experience in following areas:

1. Equipment
-Experience with FFT analyzers
-Understanding of windowing (Hanning,Flat-top,etc..)
-Measurement techniques-linear averaging,peak hold,exponential
-Microphones/Accelerometers/Calibration Techniques
-Experience with vehicle instrumentation and recording

2. Theory
-Strong fundamental understanding of vibration concepts (PSDs,FRFs,etc..)
-Time and frequency domain understanding
-FFT theory (limitations of frequency domain analysis)
-Single degree of freedom analysis
-Higher degrees of freedom and eigenvalues/eigenvector determination
-Modes of vibration for simple structures-flat plates, beams,etc..
-Types of vibration-stationary,random,deterministic,etc..
-Torsional vibration fundamentals
-Airborne versus structure borne noise

3. Advanced knowledge
-Modal Analysis techniques
-FRF collection-shakers and impact hammers
-Experience with curve fitting FRF data
-Full vehicle NVH knowledge
-Engine NVH
-Exhaust
-Frame structures
-Brake NVH (Drum and Disc)
-Rotating Equipment Analysis -order tracking
-Gear Noise
-NVH analysis for fixture design (Shaker support)
-FEA/Experimental modal correlation
-Sound quality/Transfer path analysis


Education and Experience
Candidate will have an engineering degree with preferably 5 years of automotive or related market. Experience with fatigue and vibration testing technology a must (i.e Servo-hydraulics, PID Control, B&K Pulse, Microphones, Accelerometers, Spectrum Analyzers). Experience with multi-axial test rigs would be helpful. .

• Be willing to travel to support test vehicle field investigations
